I just don’t…
Ever heard (or said) any of this?
“…like the music.”
“…get anything out of that style of worship”
“…enjoy repeating words or phrases in songs so much”
“…think he/she should be leading worship”
“…want to learn new songs”
Let’s take a look and see what the Bible says about worship…
Psalm 147:1 Praise the Lord. How good it is to sing praises to our God; how pleasant and fitting to praise Him!
Psalm 103:22 Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy Name.
1 Chronicles 13:8 David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, timbrels, cymbals, and trumpets.
2 Samuel 22:50 Therefore I will praise You, Lord, among the nations; I will sing the praises of Your Name.
Our purpose is PRAISE! We were made to worship. And HE is worthy!! He is our Salvation! Our reason for living. We are called to bring Him a sacrifice of praise; an offering.
So, here’s my question.
When did it begin to be about US?
Your thoughts?

AMEN and AMEN! I went to see Kim Walker in Gig Harbor, WA last week and my friend who came with us said EXACTLY that: I get bored of worship songs that go on too long. No talk about anointing, the power of the song, what God was doing through it and what it meant as a song that ministers to the Lord. We came home realizing, we’re just in different places with a lot of people. We want SO much more.
I just blogged about worship myself. Check it out at http://spirituallyled.wordpress.com
Thanks a blessings to you.

The sad fact is…throughout history humanity has always made everything about us. The original sin, our worship not pleasing God, etc, etc – it’s always because we put ourselves first.
We’re seeing a revival in Holy Spirit soaking at our church at the moment – where in a 3 hour meeting (as they have been of late), there’s only about 40 minutes of speaking…the rest is music, both planned and unplanned.
Some people complain…that’s their choice. Hundreds more enter into the throneroom and worship. Really worship. There’s such power and beauty in corporate worship – with music only being one aspect of that.
Great post LeAnn!
@Mark- thank you for your comment. I will check out your blog, too! I guess I’ve just heard so much lately about how worship affects or does not affect PEOPLE, that it’s made me wonder if we as worship leaders need to work on encouraging a GOD focus more. Less ME, more HIM.
@David- thanks, friend! What a wonderful thing to hear about your church!! What an inspiration. It is a fact, about humanity making everything about us, and I’m guilty as anyone. But what a wonderful thing, when we can take our focus off ourselves and worship, not for what we get out of it, but what we GIVE out of it.
Thanks for reading!
