Meeting of the Minds
Ok. So I haven’t blogged all week. What the heck is wrong with me? It seems whenever there are interesting things that happen, I forget to blog about them. Be patient with me, people, for I am so new at this…it’ll take a minute to get used to!
Yesterday morning…what a meeting we had! We had church staff and ministry leaders come together to talk about our church…what we can do to reach more people…what are we doing right, wrong…and where we feel God is taking us. It was a good first meeting. There will be more. I’m so excited and encouraged that we are even having these discussions! Talking about CHANGE! I never knew how hard it was for people to agree to make changes until I was in ministry.
We agreed in the meeting, that reaching the lost is priority one. But how?
We (Wayne and I) want to see changes to our image. Like cosmetic/updating changes to the auditorium, atmospheric changes to the outside areas. We want it to be enjoyable, and exciting to pull up to the church property. Others aren’t concerned with the “image”, but I think it’s vital! It’s the reason you will pick Starbucks instead of Denny’s to go get a cup of coffee. It’s the reason you choose one car over another car…image. How does it look, smell, feel, sound…isn’t that an important thing to consider when trying to reach out to the community and bring them in to your church? I believe a wholehearted “YES”. Is it the MOST important thing? Well, of course not. I think we need to be out in the community. We can’t just expect them to come to us! I want to be serving others, in many different ways. But how?
There was talk concerning how to keep people, once we get them into our church. We talked about the message- keeping it simple. Focused. Not just the sermon part of our message, but our church’s message, as a whole.
We talked about having a sense of community. Spending time together. Fellowship. Doing things for each other.
I have so many ideas. One of these days here soon, I’ll post them and ask you what you think. I want your feedback!
